Capital Health System (CHS) is a not-for-profit, 589-bed acute-care teaching hospital. The system is comprised of two facilities, Mercer and Fuld Hospital, and maintains a center of excellence in maternal, child health, cardiology, dialysis, trauma services, oncology, orthopedics, mental health, and infectious diseases.

The hospital includes Capital Health’s Regional Cancer Center and Institute for Neurosciences, a community prenatal center (including a level II neonatal intermediate care unit, comprehensive inpatient pediatric unit, and pediatric emergency services), cardiology services, adult emergency services, intensive care, as well as other medical and diagnostic services.

Designed to create an atmosphere of hospitality the hospital décor and artwork from regional artists will promote an environment of health and healing.

Historically, the hospitals that are a part of CHS are integral parts of their communities and the region. Rich in art heritage, the district surrounding the new hospital contains an extensive community of talented artists producing an expanse of beautiful work. CHS treasures its heritage and is excited to provide an opportunity for public presentation of its regional art.

Lin Swensson & Associates, Inc. was awarded this project as Art Consultant to Capital Health System, Hopewell, NJ. The main mission of this project, as stated by CEO and president Al Magnazehe, PhD, FACHE, was to turn this once inner city hospital “engineered for yesterday” to an “I can’t believe this” hospital of modern day. The Art Program was a major amenity which helped re-brand Capital Health. HCAHPS scores were improved by 80%. PBS Television included Capital Health in a significant film segment for the “State of the Arts” by Susan Wallner shown in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
