“Closer to Home” Art program: Pediatric Hospital

Coordinated by Lin Swensson & Associates in 2015. Franklin, Tennessee.

This 80,000-sq ft. Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital, Vanderbilt at Williamson Medical Center is located in Franklin, TN. Franklin is a quintessential southern town in Middle TN and has retained it’s historic flavor and pastoral horse farms.

For the clinical environment to relate to the young patients and help them feel more “at home” the art program was designed to be reminiscent of the local culture. “Our goal was to incorporate the country and maintain a nurturing healing feel. Art was part of our design vision from the beginning,” says Julie Miller CFO Williamson Medical center.

Lin Swensson worked with a multi-disciplinary committee of eight representatives from the hospital management team to bring the total vision together. Local art groups and individual artist selected for this installation as listed below. Each was commissioned to create art that would bring a healing positive distraction and a sense of well-being to the interior and exterior environment of the project. Many thanks to all who were involved!
